I Spy Instagram Challenge!

Yesterday’s challenge was a tough one! I haven’t uploaded my photo to Instagram yet but I did find a couple of logos using a Complementary colour scheme.

Lets move on to the next colour scheme, Analogous colours. I think you might be surprised where you might find this one. Snap a photo and share it on Instagram with the hashtag #CraftedColour. Or share them with me on my Facebook Page.

How did you do with yesterday’s challenge? I managed to find two photos of Complementary colours, one in my own pantry and another in IKEA!

Now that your familiar with finding colours in real life its time to move on to the next colour scheme, Split Complementary. I want you to keep an eye out for things that use these colour combinations. Snap a photo and share it on Instagram with the hashtag #CraftedColour. Or share them with me on my Facebook Page.

To help you become more familiar with seeing these colours in real life and to develop a natural eye for colour I’m going to challenge you. See the Complementary colours in the image below? I want you to keep an eye out in your everyday life for things that use these colour combinations. Snap a photo and share it on Instagram with the hashtag #CraftedColour.

Check the supermarket aisle and advertising in magazines for Complementary colours, you might even find these colours in beautiful flowers or wildlife. I may even share your Instagram photos here on the blog, with your permission of course!

Welcome to the wrap up of Crafted Colour – Practical Colour Theory for Craft, which is aimed at helping you develop your Colour Confidence and Craft with Colour.

What an amazing experience 31 days of Crafted Colour has been! I’d like to thank everyone for joining me for this series.

I’d also like to thank those who messaged me on Instagram and Facebook with their I Spy photos. It helped me to find some of the logos I shared in this post.  I’ve compiled a list below of the I spy Challenge posts. Remember this is an open ended challenge you can join in whenever you like.

For those of you familiar with colour theory and just want to know the steps to use to make your craft project amazing, I have a list of my Four Rules Of Crafted Colour below.

I am hoping to turn the first half of this series into an ebook with more details and illustrations. If you’d like to be notified when this is available you can leave a comment below with your email address, or if you prefer, use the contact me page to email me direct.

Colour and Mood

Welcome! This article is a part of Crafted Colour – Practical Colour Theory for Craft series, which is aimed at helping you develop your Colour Confidence and Craft with Colour. Today you will learn about the connection between Colour and Mood.

The Internet, and Pinterest in particular, is full of lovely info graphics and charts about the psychology of colour. Studies have been carried out detailing the power colour has to affect out moods and emotions. Colour charts, such as the one below, can help you to choose a colour and mood to start your craft project with.

Let’s say I’ve decided to create a wall hanging like this one for my family room. I want it to make me feel  fun, light and summer-y. Looking at various charts like the one above I could choose yellow-green (fun, uplifting cheerful), turquoise (fresh, fun, summer-y) or even pink (sweet happy youthful). I can then choose a colour scheme, maybe split complementary with white as a neutral to keep it light. (Remember the Colour Schemes are Complementary, Split Complementary, Triadic, Tetradic, Monochromatic and Analogous.)

Then, consider if you need to add a Neutral (black, grey white etc) and play with the Colour Values. That’s all there is to it really.
