Crafted Colour Round Up

October 31, 2015 By Karen Mitchell

This entry is part 31 of 31 in the series Crafted Colour

Over the Moon | Crafted Colour - Practical Colour Theory for Craft

Welcome to the wrap up of Crafted Colour – Practical Colour Theory for Craft, which is aimed at helping you develop your Colour Confidence and Craft with Colour.

What an amazing experience 31 days of Crafted Colour has been! I’d like to thank everyone for joining me for this series.

I’d also like to thank those who messaged me on Instagram and Facebook with their I Spy photos. It helped me to find some of the logos I shared in this post.  I’ve compiled a list below of the I spy Challenge posts. Remember this is an open ended challenge you can join in whenever you like.

  • I Spy Challenge – Analgous Colours
  • I Spy Challenge – Split Complementary Colours
  • I Spy Challenge – Complementary Colours

For those of you familiar with colour theory and just want to know the steps to use to make your craft project amazing, I have a list of my Four Rules Of Crafted Colour below.

rule 1 - consider the mood
What mood do you want your project to convey ? Consider this.
Crafted Colour Rule 2
Choose the colours that reflect the mood, then pick the colour scheme.

Crafted Colour Rule 3 - Play with the Values
If the colour palette isn’t right, play with the values and mix things up a little.
Rule 4 of Crafted Colour
Yes, that’s right. Break the Rules if you want to!

I am hoping to turn the first half of this series into an ebook with more details and illustrations. If you’d like to be notified when this is available you can leave a comment below with your email address, or if you prefer, use the contact me page to email me direct.

As for the second half of the series, if you like to see more colour palettes here’s a few to get you started.

Also you can let me know in the comments (or by contacting me privately) if you’d be interested in a monthly colour palette challenge with a linky style linkup.

Thanks again everyone for following along.

I couldn’t let this series go by with out at least one peacock colour palette. This one is a little out of the norm because I haven’t featured violet in the palette, although I have included a pale blue-violet.

This is the last colour palette for the series, but I will be sharing some Christmas palettes in the near future. Join me next for a roundup of the series.

Sometimes you see an image and you just want to use all the colours! That’s what I felt like when I spotted this photo. I just love the brightly coloured panes of glass against the intense blue of the sky.

When I make a colour palette like this one, with so many different colour, I realise that it is really about colour placement. Grouping and combining colours together to create mini colour palettes with in the major one. In a way it is possible to use all the colours, you just have to be willing to break the rules, just a little.

Over the Moon | Crafted Colour - Rule 4

Rules are made to be broken, you just have to pick and chose which rules to break and which ones to keep.

With the popularity of mindful colouring for adults taking place at the moment I couldn’t resist adding a palette based around colour pencils. This of course means that the colour palette is an Analogous one, consisting of closely related colours.

If I were to use this palette in a colouring page, like I did in the first palette, it would be quite boring. Personally, I prefer colouring pages with a little more light and shade in the colour values, this one is too tinted for me. I’m tempted to add a deep teal colour for depth.

If you follow me on Instagram you might recognise this colour palette. I used it to demonstrate how putting the palette through some of the filters in Instagram, and other apps, changes the mood of the palette completely.
